Grand Opening in Park
City
The Green Building Center opened
a second location in Park City this past spring at
1105 Iron Horse Drive. Shown at left are Connie Nordman, Mayor Dana
Williams, Ashley Patterson, Linda Karz and Phil Barton at the
ribbon cutting ceremony.
The Park City store carries the same
great selection of environmentally friendly building products
seen in the Salt Lake store. The friendly and knowledgeable
staff of Phil Barton, Linda Karz and Connie Nordman bring a wide range of experience and
expertise to the store. We will have a table at many upcoming
Park City-based events. We also have several items on sale for
the fall and have a concrete staining workshop and a solar
presentation on tap for the month of October so come in, call
or check our website, www.greenbuildingcenter.net, or
435.649.8262.

New Product
Spotlight TorZo
Surfaces
TorZo
Surfaces is a US based manufacturer of sustainable surfaces
that are ideal for high wear residential and commercial
applications. Product applications for these surface products,
which are manufactured from agricultural by-products and
recycled wood materials, include countertops, tabletops,
tiles, vanities and flooring. In addition, Torzo Surface
product can be used for vertical applications such as
paneling, dividers and cabinets. Currently, Torzo Surfaces
has four different lines of sustainable surface products. Each
product is offered in four standard colors, including Onyx,
Cocoa, Copper and Natural. Other colors are available as
special orders. Indure, is a recycled fiber
based product that is formaldahyde free. The indure product
line has a sleek contemporary concrete appearance that
provides a modern look. Orient, is a
recycled chip based product that is SFI (Sustainable Forestry
Initiative) certified. Orient, is a unique product that can
create both a sleek modern look or an old world rustic look,
depending on the application. Seeta, is
made from sunflower seed hulls, and therefore is considered a
rapidly renewable resource. This product line is 100%
formaldahyde free. Using a unique blend of acrylic resin, the
Seeta surface product takes on a "granite" like appearance.
Durum, is made from wheat straw, and like
Seeta is considered a rapidly renewable resource product and
is 100% formaldahyde free. Durum creates a warm organic and
very natural look.
Eco Procote
Deco Poz Deco-Poz Decorative Pozzolan
Resurfacing System is a special high performance cementious
blend of white Portland cement, sand, and a custom engineered
recycled white pozzolanic mineral additive that is combined
with a proprietary non-hazardous polymer. This unique
eco-friendly primerless resurfacing system bonds to virtually
any substrate delivering a durable new cementious surface that
is suitable for both interior or exterior decorative
finishes. We’ve had success covering Formica
countertops, patching holes in interior and exterior concrete
and putting it over the top of plywood. It’s an
inexpensive way to give old floors or countertops a
facelift.
Sustainability Tip Do you
have an older home? Is it hot in the summer and drafty
in the winter? One of the most cost effective ways to
add comfort and efficiency to your home is to insulate the attic. You can
do it yourself or you can hire someone to do it, but either
way, Rocky Mountain Power and Questar want to help you to pay
for the upgrade. Check out
http://www.homeenergysavings.net/utah/docs/RMTUT_ins2008.pdf
from Rocky Mountain Power if you have an air conditioner or an
electrical furnace or
http://www.thermwise.com/home/Weatherization_Application_08.pdf
from Questar if you have a gas furnace. Either
organization is willing to pay a significant percentage of the
cost of the insulation and many businesses, including The
Green Building Center, can rent insulation blowers for a low
price with purchase of the recycled cellulose
insulation. The return on investment is virtually
immediate when the weather is cold or hot. Unlike
purchasing new windows or a solar system, this one’s a no
brainer, folks.
